Artillery Company of Newport

The Artillery Company of Newport was chartered in 1741 to protect the town from possible attack. Today, after over 270 years of continuous service, the Company maintains a military museum in its Armory which is considered to have one of the most outstanding collections of foreign and domestic military uniforms and memorabilia in the US. Visitors may also view 4 original 1978 Paul Revere brass cannons, which are fired every year for the 4th of July.
